Nazarbayev University is an autonomous research university in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. Founded as a result of the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev in 2010,〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.astanatimes.com/2015/06/kazakh-president-awards-diplomas-to-first-graduates-of-nazarbayev-university/ )〕 it is an English-medium institution, with an international faculty and staff. The acceptance rate for undergraduate programs is 1:8.5. All undergraduate students attend free of charge, and students in good standing receive a stipend. The faculty-to-student class ratio is 1:9. Nazarbayev University is legally linked to the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools and the Nazarbayev Endowment Fund, which are dedicated to promoting education reforms in Kazakhstan. On June 15, 2015, the president of Kazakhstan awarded diplomas to the graduates of the first cohort of the Nazarbayev University.〔 That day 446 students received their bachelor's degrees.〔 ==Academics== The university consists of six schools: the School of Engineering, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Science and Technology, the Graduate School of Business, the Graduate School of Education, and the Graduate School of Public Policy. The School of Medicine is expected to open in 2015, and a School of Mining is being considered. Nazarbayev University offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees, from bachelor to Ph.D. degrees. As of 2012, undergraduate majors available to students included anthropology, biology/biomedicine, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, computational science, economics, electrical and electronic engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, physics, political science/international relations, robotics and mechatronics, sociology, history, and world languages, literature and culture. Many students at Nazarbayev University are admitted to the Nazarbayev University Foundation Programme, a one-year program that prepares students for entry into the undergraduate schools. At the end of this preparatory year, students apply to undergraduate programs in the university. Some students are admitted directly to undergraduate programs, while others transfer to the university from other universities. A partnership with University College London ended in July 2015 after five years, and the University of Warwick is now the foundation programme partner.
